The Most Rev. James F. Checchio, Bishop of Metuchen, will preside at a 1 p.m. prayer service for the St. Francis School community.

Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Zamorski, Cathedral Rector, will preside at a 7 p.m. Mass in honor of Saint Pio with Rev. Timothy A. Christy, Vicar of Evangelization and Communication, serving as homilist.

Confessions will be available throughout the day.

Good Shepherd Sunday

Good Shepherd Sunday, designated in 1963 by Pope Paul VI as World Day of Prayer for Vocations, is celebrated on the Fourth Sunday of Easter. This year, it will be celebrated on Sunday, April 22. The day provides an opportunity for the Church to publicly celebrate and pray for vocations to ordained ministry and religious life. The theme this year is “Listening, discerning and living the Lord’s call.”

To mark the occasion, eleven men currently preparing to be priests for the Diocese of Metuchen will visit parishes throughout Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties the weekend of April 21-22 to speak about their vocations. The list of scheduled seminarian parish visits follows:

Holy Hour of Prayer

In celebration of Good Shepherd Sunday, also the 55th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, the Diocese of Metuchen’s Offices of Religious and Vocations will co-sponsor a Holy Hour of Prayer, April 22 at 3 p.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane. All are welcome. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the service.

Interfaith Forum

Rev. Guy Selvester, Director of the Office of Ecumenical and Interfaith Affairs for the Diocese of Metuchen, will moderate an interfaith forum titled, "It's Complicated: A discussion of Israel, Christianity and Islam and building bridges to peace."

The forum will be held Wednesday, April 25 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway.

Speakers, who were among a number of interfaith clergy from throughout New Jersey to take part in a mission trip to Israel, will have an opportunity to openly reflect on the mission, discuss preconceived notions, share their experiences, and consider future interfaith efforts.
