RCIA Training Seminar 2017

7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
06/01/2017

No registration fee – registration required

Five training sessions will be offered on five consecutive evenings, beginning June 1. The sessions will be held at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center, 146 Metlars Lane, Piscataway. Register online: http://diometuchen.org/offices-and-ministries/formation-and-leadership/rcia/rcia-events/

  • June 1: Overview - An overall summary of the RCIA process – describing the four periods of the Rite and the Liturgical Rituals that celebrate the movement from one phase into the next phase.

  • June 8: Precatechumenate - Also called the Period of Evangelization or Inquiry. We will discuss what this period looks like and what we focus on during this period. We will also look at the principal involved in discerning when an Inquirer is ready to move into the next period.

  • June 15: Catechumenate - We will begin with the Rite of Acceptance, and we will discuss this period as a period of apprenticship in discipleship. Using the four pillars of catechesis, prayer, community and apostolic activities we will give an example of how a catechumenate session might be conducted. We will also look at the principals involved in discerning when someone is ready to move into the next period.

  • June 22: Purification & Enlightenment - The Lenten Period before the Sacraments of Initiation are received. We will begin with the Rite of Election, and then we will talk about the Scrutinies and what the sessions in this period could look like in order to prepare the catechumens for the Scrutinies.

  • June 29: Mystagogy - We will begin with the Easter Vigil – how it should be celebrated. Then we will look at the period after the Initiation and what those sessions should focus on – how do we keep them interested enough to come back.

If you have any questions, please contact Sara Sharlow at rcia@diometuchen.org.
